Guadalcanal: America’s First Offensive Action in World War II
The battle for the island of Guadalcanal marked the initial offensive action in the South Pacific against the Japanese. The Marines landed on August 7, 1942 for what would be a series of horrendous land and sea battles for the control of the island's airstrip. MSgt Stephen Walter, USMCR (Ret.) hosts this presentation, which will include a film and discussion of this turning point in World War II.
