This September, Southwest Public Libraries (SPL) is celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month with a fresh new look. We are introducing two new library card designs that celebrate SPL’s history with art inspired by the 1920s. Since SPL was founded in 1923, we wanted to create a card that connects our past while still looking forward to the future. The resulting design is inspired by the Bauhaus art movement, which began in Germany in 1919 and became known for its use of geometric shapes, clean lines, bold colors, and minimalist design.
