Here at SPL, we’re committed to serving you safely and innovatively, providing as smooth and pleasant a library experience as possible. Due to challenges presented by current health developments, SPL will adjust library hours temporarily beginning Monday, January 10, 2022 in order to continue serving the community safely and effectively.
Beginning January 10, hours at both locations will be:
- Mon–Thu: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Fri–Sat: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed
These hours are expected to last through the current COVID surge, with plans to return to regular hours when it is possible to do so. The latest variant has posed new challenges for library staffing due to its increased transmissibility.
We will continue to work hard to keep our community safe and the library open and running smoothly while adhering to appropriate COVID protocol and precautions. Our service has only been possible thanks to our superstar staff, who have been taking on additional roles, hours, and responsibilities during staffing shortages. Omicron, however, challenges even the most dedicated public servants, and these challenges are interrupting our ability to serve effectively while maintaining appropriate staffing levels for our regular hours.
We thank you for your support and understanding and look forward to resuming our regular hours as soon as possible.
PER NEW CDC GUIDELINES, PLEASE WEAR A MASK WHEN INSIDE THE LIBRARY.
The library is able to provide a mask if you do not have one. Thank you for helping us protect our friends, neighbors, and community.
How long will these hours last?
Hours are subject to change at any time in accordance with current developments. These hours are expected to last through the current COVID surge due to the latest variant, with plans to return to regular hours when it is possible to do so.
Is the library building open?
Yes, our buildings remain open for normal services, including browsing, printing, scanning, faxing, and computer use. If you prefer no-contact services or pick-up, please call for assistance.
Why are you changing hours now when you didn’t for Delta?
We’re here to serve the community safely and never wish to reduce hours or library service unless absolutely necessary. Our community’s health and safety is of paramount importance. SPL responded to the seriousness of Delta fully, implementing all CDC-recommended measures. Omicron’s exponentially increased transmissibility, including increased rates of breakthrough cases, means that more of our team are out sick, in quarantine, or testing positive for COVID-19 than during the Delta variant’s surge. Temporarily reduced hours ensure we have sufficient staffing to operate effectively.
Are you holding library programming right now?
In-person library programming is currently on pause through at least January for the safety of our community. We’re working to reschedule many of January’s programs for a later date. Stay tuned for updates. Meanwhile, enjoy a variety of engaging virtual and Take & Make options for all ages. See what’s coming up on our web calendar.
Are the bookdrops still open all hours? Can I still return my items anytime?
Yes, you may return items 24/7 via our outdoor bookdrops.
What other safety measures is the library taking to protect the health of visitors?
The safety and health of our patrons and staff remain our priority. SPL has implemented many precautionary measures including:
- Training staff in proper sanitizing and disinfecting methods and requiring all staff to mask when working.
- Installing new air purifying units in our HVAC systems that purify air using UVC light. These hospital grade units work within the ducts to kill and remove viruses, bacteria, mold, and other contaminants.
- Installing new plexiglass shields around public service desks.
- Changing layouts and service practices to support social distancing and minimize contact.
